Martha Bear® is our spokesbear and the heroine of many of our teddy bear stories.  She is also the mother of three "bearlings" and a big football fan, though her favorite event is always the Salad Bowl because she loves to eat.

Martha and her pals, Airborne, Mr. Whickers and Teddy O, know football entertaining can easily include a children's Tale Gate Party when you read Martha Bear® stories (complete list in the right column) pre or post game AND serve nutritious snacks to the "kidlings."

      Enjoy,
     Jane Marie

  Children's Tale Gate Party Snacks

By Jane Marie

It's story, Martha Bear® and the Beverage of Choice, is the stuff of legends.

  • Airborne's Peary Good Salad

This recipe comes from Jane Marie's mother, Martha Marie.  Airborne, Martha Bear's grasshopper advisor and friend, first had it when he was only a tiny hopper learning to jump.  He's sure the cream cheese is what makes him the great leaper he is today, since everybody knows that cheese strengthens a hopper's muscles.

For one serving, you'll need:

  • One whole lettuce leaf
  • 1 fresh pear half, peeled or a canned pear half, drained
  • Cream cheese in a 1" x 1" square
  • Crushed pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Maraschino cherry

Wash the lettuce leaf and place on a salad plate.

Place a pear half atop lettuce, seeded side up.

Roll the block of cream cheese in nuts.  Set on top of the pear.

Top with cherry.

Serve with a fork.

  Oklahoma Mascot campaign details

Teddy O, that rascally teddy bear who is a proud member of Thundering Teddies, mischievous bears trying to do the right thing, loves surprises.  His favorite muffins will astound you after one bite!

You'll need:

  • One 8.5 oz. box corn muffin mix, prepared according to the directions (add a tablespoon of sour cream and a tablespoon of sugar to make them extra rich)

  • 1 teaspoon raspberry jelly or jam

Spray muffin pans with non-stick spray or use paper cupcake liners.

Fill the individual muffin cups 1/4 full.

Add one teaspoon jelly or jam on top of the batter.

Cover the jelly in each muffin cup with the rest of the mix, distributing evenly.

Bake according to package directions or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Serve warm if possible.

Makes approximately 8 muffins.

Martha Bear's Critter Crunchies

Martha Bear has many friends and co-workers including cats and catlings, bears and bearlings, dogs, birds, hamsters, chameleons, and toadlets, plus humans like Jane Marie.  Whew!

As you might expect, the large white bear who sees with her heart often has visitors at Stately Martha Manor.  Martha Bear® serves her critter crunchies at parties and to unexpected guests.  Since the number of guests is ever-increasing, she's wondering if it's because her critter crunchies are so yummy her friends can't resist.  Martha Bear expects you'll love them, too!

You'll need:

  • 2 cups chow mien noodles
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 cup dried mixed fruit
  • 1/2 cup coconut
  • 1 cup mixed nuts or shelled peanuts (unless there are allergies among the guests)

Mix the above ingredients, doubling the quantities if necessary.

This is finger food, but make sure small hands are washed before serving.

Store in an airtight container.  Martha Bear likes to give away small jars to her friends as presents.  You can, too.  Just tie a pretty ribbon around the jar and add a homemade gift tag!

Mr. Whickers' Stuffed Apples

Mr. Whickers, the proprietor mouse of Martha Bear's online emporium at MarthaBear.com, loves his fruits.  You might often find him gnawing on Stuffed Apples because his wife, Taffy Whickers, understands that apples are nature's toothbrush and good for him, too!

You'll need:

  • 1 apple, cored
  • 1-2 tablespoons peanut butter (Several small cheese cubes may be substituted for the peanut butter)
  • 2 tablespoons raisins (approximately)

Core the apple.

Mix the peanut butter (or cheese) and raisins.

Stuff this mixture into the center of the apple, filling it.

Take a bite!
