Recipes Bread Recipes Once upon a time, Nancy's husband's family had an old fashioned grocery store. They made wonderful things to eat from scratch including salt rising bread. When the baker retired, his recipes disappeared. Nancy developed this version in response to customer demand. It's a lot of work, but a taste treat you won't find at an ordinary bakery. Enjoy, PS We get a lot of e-mails asking for the name of a bakery that makes and ships salt rising bread. We are sorry to say we don't know of one. |
Combine and allow to ferment for 24 hours:
Next day, heat:
Stir in:
Allow to ferment 2 hours or until bubbles come up from the bottom. Stir in:
Shape into 3 large loaves, place in greased pans, cover and allow them to rise in a warm place. Bake at 325° F for about an hour. Cover pans loosely with aluminum foil if bread is browning too rapidly.
