Early in our marriage, I made
Julia Child's favorite chocolate cake for my in-laws. It was
a disaster. Possibly the fault was mine (you think?), but I
can't usually blame Julia Child for my cooking calamities so I
enjoy repeating the story.
In every other case, Julia Child won
the respect and admiration of everyone who enjoys good food.
No kitchen library would be complete without one of her
cookbooks like Baking with Julia. Nancy

Healthy living
is important no matter what the state of your health. I like the
recipes in Betty Crocker's Living with Cancer Cookbook because I know my family eats too much junk food. I feel that
every good thing I can get them to eat is a small victory for our future
well being. Nancy

Even if you never
prepare any of the recipes in Peg Bracken's book, The Compleat
I Hate to Cook Book, you will enjoy the her light and breezy
writing style. The book was first published in 1960, which
was the end of the Dark Ages in housekeeping. (Women were
expected to all the household chores while wearing pearls.)

Junior League cookbooks
are apt to feature recipes that read "Take a jar of spaghetti

The Junior League of Denver, on the other hand, knows how to cook. Crème de Colorado is a winner. Nancy

I've done a bit of

Vivaldo breaks everything done to clear, well-illustrated instructions
on everything from recipes based on the number of people to sanitation
advice. This is a great book Nancy

I love cookbooks and I devour business
books. That meant I fell upon The Doughmakers Cookbook by Bette LaPlante and Diane Culver with little cries of

and lots of good stuff within the recipe pages. Yippee! Nancy

I've been curious about
the Dr. Atkins Diet for a long time, though the thought
of giving up my beloved carbs wasn't enticing. However, since
macadamia nuts and cream cheese are an integral part of the picture, I suspect I would survive quite
nicely if I were to follow the program.
Caution - while this book contains recipes,
it's really about an eating lifestyle. Nancy

Like so many citizens
of the world, I adore Italian cooking, especially when I - picky

should check out Cucina Siciliana. How about

I do everything my
way, which is often the hard way. In cooking, that means some
of our meals are not as successful as they might have been had I followed
the recipe or learned the technique before I plunged right in.
That's why I'm glad to have Pam Anderson's book, How to
Cook Without a Book, around - it let's me be me, but provides
those guidelines I've always needed. Nancy

I'm drawn to cookbooks
