 The Legend of Ron Añejo

Musician Ed Teja's book, The Legend of Ron Añejo, is a not quite a smooth read.  There were a very few little things my editor's soul didn't like - including the use of the word "legend" in the title, but I honestly did enjoy this island bum in the Caribbean story, and pleasure is always bottom line.  If I currently have no wish to sell my '84 Tercel and hit the high seas on the proceeds, put it down to a propensity for seasickness and a fear of rum.  Nancy

PS  My husband, who spent his formative years in the US Navy, thinks we should list everything on eBay and go looking for Teja's Captain Ron*.

*Captain Ron is also a Kurt Russell movie that holds up pretty well for families in need of a comedy.  The movie should not be confused with (my mother-in-law loves this movie) Overboard, which also stars Kurt Russell.  In Overboard, Goldie Hawn plays the the love interest as opposed to Martin Short, who costars in Captain Ron and does not play Kurt Russell's love interest either on screen or off as far as I know.

Perhaps, she mused, there's something in the Caribbean water.

You probably wouldn't think a book about salt could hold your attention.  I had my doubts too, but think food, currency and history, and salt becomes your subject of choice.  In fact, you're in luck.  Mark Kurlansky has written the definitive work in Salt a World History.  It's hefty, but most interesting.  Nancy

Author Michael Zagst's novels all seem to be out of print, and that is a shame since anyone who refers to former US vice president Spiro Agnew as Mr. Renfield deserves a better fate for his literary output.
