What's this?

The hardest part of being a freelance writer is finding a constant stream of new projects.  Peter Bowerman's The Well-Fed Writer (I've got Back For Seconds, which is volume number two.) is packed with tips on markets and marketing.  It's beyond useful.  I look forward to wearing out my copy.  Nancy

"Thanks much!"  PB

Mini Book Review List

How about a witty writer named Jaine Austen as a  detective?

While the writer in Laura Levine's This Pen for Hire wouldn't be my first choice if I were hiring a freelance writer, she is entertaining and that's plenty for me.

In fact trying to figure out how this woman could support herself was a major distraction while I was reading the book.  She writes plumbing brochures with titles like Tanks for the Memories!

My actual point is Levine's got a great series.   Nancy

Dare to go Bear

A lot of writers have started using writers as the heroes in their novels in a sort of a write what you know and go heavy on the gilding shtik.  All the way through If Looks Could Kill by Kate White, I kept calculating how the writer/sleuth could support herself on $1/word given the time she put into her craft.  Professional jealousy aside, I liked the book and look forward to the next volume in the series.  Now if I could just get a few gigs that pay super well ...   Nancy

"If I could tell you one thing about my life it would be this: when I was seven years old the mailman ran over my head."

Newsweek said it first, but here I go: that's the best opening sentence ever.  It comes  from Brady Udall's The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint'Nuff said.  Nancy

Sit back and relax with a good horror story - it will keep you on your toes.  We suggest t http://members.tripod.com/~Evyl_1/index5.html.  Joe has a gift.
