WIN! Contest News

Thousands of books come out each year, but not every one is a gem that makes you salivate for the next volume in the series.  Fortunately for us, Michael B. Edwards' Murder at the Panionic Games is just the first installment in the excellent adventures of a new sleuth, Bias of Priene.

What makes this series even more entertaining is the historical Bias of Priene*, who lived circa 570 BCE.  Since our hero makes his first appearance during athletic contests held in 650 BCE, there's got to be a connection, which the author will no doubt reveal in his own good time.  They don't seem to have the same father so perhaps we're looking at a mythical, mystery-solving grandfather here.  I just love these little diversions, don't you?  Nancy

*Bias of Priene was one of the Seven Sages of ancient Greece.  He taught that most men are evil.

Book Review List

Dare to go Bear

When you're a readaholic and you're trapped in a car for two days, you'll start to read anything at all.  I was pleasantly surprised while in that situation when I picked up one of my daughter's books and enjoyed it.  (She did too.)

The book was Witch Hill by Marcus Sedgwick, and even though I could see some of the ending coming, this clever tale of a boy shipped off to an English (Is any part of that country unthreatening, or do I read too much?) village to recuperate from a family tragedy is worth reading.  (Tell the kids you got it for them. Nancy

Don't you just hate it when you start a series in the middle?  It's like walking into a movie after the first explosion.  (Oh wait, you may not be married to my husband.  In that case, it's like walking into a movie after the main characters are introduced.)
