I'd like to say author Millington was just saying this for comic effect, but since it's in his book twice, he probably meant it. 

The book, Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About, also states "Reject the tyranny of socks" so you can clerly see Millington is an equal opportunity complainer.  Of course if his own life contains half the obstacles that rise to smite the book's hero, well, anyone would grumble.  I laughed out loud while reading TMG&IHAA - you will too.  Nancy
