I laughed out loud while reading Sundays with Vlad by Pail Bibeau, a man who is seriously warped (and not alone in this).  Bibeau relates his adventures in search of the real Dracula, and while I love to travel, I glad I wasn't the woman who honeymooned with him at one of Vlad the Impaler's hangouts.

The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova, broke onto the bestseller lists in the summer of 2005 like a vampire in a blood bank.  Everyone read it, but if you didn't, I recommend it.

What should be a slow story of dusty books, is a  very entertaining tale of Dracula, old Vlad the Impaler himself.  And if the ending isn't quite as good as the rest of the book, who are we to complain?  We didn't have to conjure up the undead now did we?  Nancy

Sometimes there's so much to do here at greenlightWRITE, we neglect those who transport us to other times  and places like author Gillian Bradshaw.

Her historical fiction is so well written I wish she'd clone herself and increase her output.  Trust me on this one.  Nancy

Mini Book Review List

This is the deal.  I read Marion Zimmer Bradley's Avalon series as the books were published, which means I've rewritten this review six or eight times in a futile attempt to get the timeline right.

Having said that, I can only add that if you like mythic fiction, start with The Forest House (#1) (written second, but first chronologically).  Then proceed to Lady of Avalon (#2), Priestess of Avalon (#3) (co-authored with Diana L. Paxson), and finally The Mists of Avalon (#4), which was turned into a TV movie with some good bits.  Nancy

Your average dry cleaner is probably no more of a sleuth than you or I, but in my never ending quest for a good mystery story, I am thrilled to announce that Dolores Johnson has a dry cleaner-detective whose adventures are worth following.  The first book in the series is Taken to the Cleaners Nancy
