I saw someone wearing this quilted patriotic pinwheel brooch and was taken by how different it was. Since I didn’t have any instructions, I made them up as I went and had my brooch in no time. I enjoy quilting, but if you’ve never tried it, don’t be afraid. It’s simply a few running stitches (straight) through three layers of fabric and batting. Simple to do and a point of patriotic pride to wear! Enjoy, |

You’ll need:
Layer in the following order and secure the layers with straight pins so they don’t shift
Carefully cut a straight line from each of the four corners to within one inch of the center of the squares to form four triangles. These still-attached to the center triangles will form the points of your pinwheel. (Don’t cut all the way to the center.) With either quilting thread or a doubled length of sewing thread, sew a basic small running stitch along the three sides of each triangle, keeping the stitching a little less than 1/4" from the outside edge of the fabric. Without creasing, fold the left corner of each triangle to the middle of the circle, slightly overlapping each. Secure all four corners atop one another in the center with a straight pin. Sew a button in the center of the four points, making sure you catch all four of the points. Stitch a brooch pin to the back or use a corsage pin to attach your patriotic pinwheel over your heart. |
