Earning money online is neither simple or easy. If someone tells you otherwise, grab your wallet and run.

Nevertheless, there are things you can do online to generate some cash. Here's our list, but please note the ones we do not recommend:

Gamble - A giant time waster and money sink hole. Don't start.
Take surveys where you might win money. Companies know your personal info is very valuable. They should pay you to spill. Also, who knows what might ultimately happen to your details?
Enter contests - Be judicious about the amount of information you give up for the chance to win something. Set up an e-mail address just for contest entry because you may get a lot of spam.
eBay - Many people who try eBay have the idea they might just be able to make a living selling stuff on the site. Thousands do so; millions do not. I sold a necklace online, but didn't sell others. I found the whole process to be more trouble than it's worth. If you want to give eBay a try, educate yourself first. Here are some helpful books:

Other online auction sites and store systems - Ditto the eBay remarks. Educate yourself about the costs and risks before you waste time and money.
Affiliate programs for your website - If you get any traffic at all, you might be able to generate a few pennies with affiliate programs where you host ads and get paid if someone clicks through those ads and makes a purchase. [Provided their computers weren't carrying a cookie that gave credit to another site.] We make money with Google [ ] and Amazon [Amazon Associates], but not so much from our other affiliate programs. If you join affiliate programs, it is best to have a tightly focused niche site - something we do not have.
