Holidays Hollywood Hearts Most everyone has seen the picture of the little boy (not the painting "The Blue Boy" by Thomas Gainsborough) in the old-fashioned dark blue velvet suit. That is Little Lord Fauntleroy of the classic tale by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It's the story of Cedric, a young American lad living in poverty in 19th century New York. He is heir to a huge fortune and must go to live with his grandfather in England. While there, the boy teaches his grandfather the importance of love. "Nothing is the world is so strong as a kind heart." This is a wonderful story for bedtime reading. Enjoy, |

Of course it helps if the grown man, my husband Bruce in this case, is a good sport and a little goofy as well. I found many of the items at the second hand store so this costume was very inexpensive to create.
You'll need:
Pants The short pants Bruce is wearing were part of a ladies velvet pant suit. They fit him perfectly (he tried them on in the second hand store) and were short enough to go just below his knees. You may shorten any dark pants and gather the bottom with elastic so they will puff at the knee. If that's too much trouble, just pin them so they don't bag below the knee.
Shirt Pin one of the wide lace tiebacks around the neck with the ends meeting at the throat. This goes over the white shirt for a lacy collar. You may also put a tie back around each wrist for lacy cuffs, but this isn't necessary. Make a large blue bow tie from the wide ribbon and pin it at the neck. It does not go around the neck.
Feet Pull on long white socks and blue shoes. Make bows for each shoe with the narrow blue ribbon, attaching them with paper clips.
Head Put on the curly wig. Top it with the hat, securing it with elastic or a hatpin. Put large circles of blush on the cheeks.
Trim Tie one corded curtain tassel around the waist, letting the ends dangle at the side. Pin a cut off curtain tassel at the side of each knee at the bottom of the pants.
Props Tie a belt around the three books and carry them to look like a schoolboy. The book on top could be Little Lord Fauntleroy.
Have fun!
