We spent a lot of our November 2004 trip to San Francisco in Golden State Park, which is not located at the foot of the bridge, but rather several miles south.  It has wonderful scenic walks, museums, gardens and decorative buildings.  It has to be one of the great urban parks of the world.

Enjoy,
Nancy

Golden Gate Park is managed parkland at its best.  There are open grassy areas, recreation opportunities and several unique destinations.

Chinese Pavilion

The Chinese Pavilion was a gift from Taipei, Taiwan.

Japanese Tea Garden

The beautiful Japanese Tea Garden was cared for by its designer, Makoto Hagiwara, and his family until they were interred during World War II with so many other Japanese -Americans.

Hagiwara is also credited with inventing the fortune cookie.

Conservatory of Flowers

The Conservatory was reassembled in the park in 1878 after purchase from an estate.  It has survived fire and storm damage.

We're now using our photos of hibiscus flowers in the Conservatory of Flowers for section icons in our newsletter (archive and link to latest issue) and the GraciousJaneMarie.com home page.
