Dancing Poodle By Sally Humphry Tiger was my best friend. He loved me with that unconditional love you can only find in pets. He was a miniature silver poodle with a happy, playful spirit, and, like most poodles, had a sharp intelligence. That was why I was only mildly surprised when he taught himself to dance. I was lying on my bed, playing a small music box, when Tiger wrapped his front paws around my arm and danced away. When I stopped playing, he stopped dancing. My sister came into my bedroom and I made her watch this startling display. She was so astonished that she insisted that I go at once and show our parents. We both went charging into their bedroom with Tiger, telling them to be prepared to be amazed. I lay down on their bed and began to play my music box, and Tiger jumped up and started to dance. I was certain they would be on the phone or writing letters to Johnny Carson and that soon Tiger and I would become rich and famous, world-renowned. To my utter amazement, my parents ordered me to stop! I was bewildered at their reaction. Was it because I allowed Tiger onto their bed? Didn't they realize the magnitude of my discovery? Years later, I realized that Tiger wasn't "dancing” at all, and the reason for my parent's response became clear to me. However, I will always remember, with love, my dancing poodle.
