There are several versions of this wonderful recipe and measurements in each are a little different, so you don’t have to be exact.  And can you ever have too much cinnamon and sugar?  This is wonderful for anytime of the day or night, and it makes the house smell sooooo good.

     Enjoy,

Monkey Bread Recipe

You'll need:

  • 1 bundt pan or 8 or 9 inch baking dish
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • Topping and biscuit ingredients

Topping ingredients

  • 1 stick margarine or butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 6 to 8 whole pecans or walnuts (optional)

Biscuit ingredients

  • 3 cans of biscuits, each cut in quarters (4 cans may be used if you need to increase the recipe.  Just increase the cinnamon and sugar to taste)
  • 1 clean gallon-size plastic bag
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Melt the butter.

Stir in cinnamon and sugar.

Pour half of this mixture in the bottom of pan.  Evenly place whole pecans on top of the mixture.

Place cinnamon and sugar in plastic bag.

Add quartered biscuits and shake until covered.

Begin layering the biscuits in the pan, sprinkling chopped nuts between layers.

Pour the second half of the melted butter, sugar and cinnamon topping on top.

Bake 350˚ F for 30 to 40 minutes, until golden brown.

Turn out onto pretty serving platter if desired.

Best served warm, but still yummy at room temperature.

Hi there,

I am doing some research for a
Brownie's project and I was wondering if you knew where the origination of "Monkey Bread" came from?

I've searched and just can't find any information ... . I hope you can help. Thanks.

Eva

Hi Eva,

Nancy and I were Brownies, and we wish your girls the best.
