We got an e-mail asking for suggestions about giving homemade herb-flavored olive oil as a gift. In the interest of food safety, we urge you to give an unopened bottle of a nice olive oil together with a packet of herbs you've assembled. Olive oil with fresh garlic will spoil, and we're just not sure about any other addition that isn't going to be served immediately. Enjoy, |

Assemble:
Mix several tablespoons of your chosen herbs and spices together, adding salt to taste. Once you’re satisfied with the flavor, place the herbs in a pretty dish for serving with a spoon. Give each guest a small bowl or saucer in which to pour his or her olive oil from a carafe or gravy boat. Pass the herbs for each guest to take as little or as much as they want. Offer fresh bread or rolls and let the dipping begin!
Bonus ideas
*Balsamic vinegar originated near Modena, Italy, where the product is aged for a minimum of twelve years. Read the labels before you buy.
