Angels are benevolent spiritual beings who draw their powers from their closeness to God. They exist to praise and serve God. Many religions mention angels of some type, but the word comes from the Greek aggelos and means messenger as does the Hebrew word mal 'akh. Angels owe their artistic depictions to classical artists and pagan winged gods like the Egyptian Isis and the Greek Mercury. Lucifer, the fallen angel (Satan), may have some roots in Ahriman, the Zoroastrian god of darkness. Angels are often divided into orders or groups:
Special Angels The archangel Gabriel (Jibrīl) revealed [The Holy Quran: An English Translation] and the basic tenets of Islam to Mohammed. He is the angel of mercy and a saint in the Roman Catholic Church.

Guardian angels watch over individuals. Buraq is part mule and part angel. He is said to have carried Mohammed on his back. Archangel Michael is the leader of God's army of angels. In Islam he provides food and knowledge to mankind. He is said to guard the tombs of Moses and Eve, and is a saint in the Roman Catholic Church. The angel Moroni revealed The Book of Mormon: A Reader's Edition to Joseph Smith. Archangel Raphael is the healing angel and a saint in the Roman Catholic Church. Zaphkiel is the Angel of Contemplation.
